“If there is one cell salt that is considered to be the most general in its action and the most beneficial to all patients, it is Calcarea Phosphate.” – Vinton McCabe, The Healing Echo

As we round out our 12 Cell Salt series, we end with the cell salt that is most beneficial to all: Calc phos (Calcium Phosphate).

This is the tissue-salt concerned with nutrition. It is a wonderful tonic for those who are mentally, emotionally, and/or physically exhausted.

It promotes healthy cellular activity and can restore energy and tone to weakened muscles. Without Calc phos, there would be no blood coagulation.

Given in conjunction with other tissue salts, it can assist the action and produce more rapid results.

Calc phos is all about the formation of bones and teeth. It builds strength in both young and old.  For this reason it is an excellent support for growing children, including teenage growth spurts, and for the elderly who have become weakened with age.

For those of us in the middle, this can restore nutrition we did not get as a child and help to prevent bone issues as we age.  In fact, this cell salt is one of the remedies for Osteoporosis in the Banerji protocols.

Allow me to share a personal story of how I’ve used this cell salt regularly in my home.

At approx 4 years old, I took my son to the dentist.  We discovered he had a few cavities in his baby teeth, which the dentist wanted to fill.  She told me that because he has deep grooves in his teeth, he would always be prone to cavities.

As a holistic mom that relies heavily on homeopathy, I wasn’t so sure.  Her solution was to fill the cavities and ensure fluoride treatments at every visit. So I thanked her for her advice, had her commence with the cleaning and told her I wanted to think about the fillings.

When I got home I promptly called the homeopath and she told of this wonderful trio of cell salts:  Calc phos + Calc fluor + Silica.  I began dosing him right away, every day, until our next appointment.  Can you imagine how the story turned out?

Had I listened to the dentist (and I’m not saying that you shouldn’t for most things relating to your teeth), my sweet baby would’ve been getting fluoride treatments from that day forward.  Instead, at 17 years old, I’m happy to say that he has not had a cavity since.

I didn’t stop there. Since this cell salt has such an affinity to the bones, I have used it off and on throughout the growth years, including when he made a huge leap at puberty.  It has helped soothe the transition and allowed him to grow into a healthy (and quite tall) young man!

Because of its restorative properties, Calc phos is indicated after an illness and especially if it is prolonged. It is often combined with Ferrum phos in convalescence. It assists with digestion and assimilation and helps to build a sturdy, robust constitution.  Something so many seem to be lacking in today’s times.

Some indications for its use include:

  • Delayed milestones, including learning difficulties
  • Failure to thrive
  • Slow teething, prone to cavities
  • Frequent bone breaks, brittle bones
  • Sickly children, adults, elderly
  • Chronic swollen lymph glands
  • Lactose/dairy  intolerance
  • Food allergies
  • Weakness in hips, low back, buttocks & neck
  • Translucent teeth
  • White spots on teeth

Calc Phos children can be obstinate, irritable, demanding and sensitive. Think of crabbiness. They are also “Perfectionistic”. They tear up their paper because it isn’t perfect when drawing or doing a homework assignment.

It’s interesting to note that often this behavior is a result of OVERWHELM which manifests in this obstinate, difficult to please behavior.

Calc phos can sooth the system and calm the child’s responses.
